V.GÖKÇAYLI won awards in Japan, Israel, France, Germany and Egypt. Aphrodisias Foundation and Gökçaylı connection goes back to 26 years when eminent archaelogist Prof. Kenan ERİM started the excavation and brought to light this exraordinary site. Prof. Kenan ERİM is the recipient of the Crystal Globe from the University of NewYork USA.
Discovering Aphrodisias in 1982 GÖKÇAYLI became good friends with Prof. Kenan ERİM. GÖKÇAYLI was captivated with the draper, accessories, shoes, hair styles and the gowns of the statues in the arcient city’s remains. Gökçaylı went into detailed research and started to use the effects in his creations and designs.
In the mean time Prof.Kenan ERİM divulged to GÖKÇAYLI that his budget was being reduced, the result was, GÖKÇAYLI decided to set up an association. Back in Istanbul GÖKÇAYLI consulted his client and lawyer, Selnur HAMAMCIOĞLU and she requested five names to set up the association.
GÖKÇAYLI put forward Sevgi GÖNÜL, Abdurrahman HANCI, Ayşe SILAN, Selnur HAMAMCIOĞLU, and Yasemin PİRİNÇÇİOĞLU and there by the association was set up. The Former Presidential secretary and Ambassador Fuat BAYRAMOĞLU became the president of the association. Under his presidency what had started as an association becomes a full fledged foundation. Gökçaylı, from then on, organized his fashion exhibitions and shows primarly for the benefit of the Aphrodisias Foundation.
